Starting with version 6, SIMetrix and SIMetrix/SIMPLIS will require license files to use a slightly updated format from that used with v5.X. This transition may result in some confusion on the part of end users and administrators, which we hope to mitigate. Below is an explanation of the changes to licensing, as well as a table of error messages, circumstances where they might appear, and a suggested course of action.

What an updated license looks like

A fully updated, v6 compatible license file will have multi-line SIGN or SIGN2 parameters for all PACKAGE, FEATURE and/or INCREMENT lines for vendors pdt and NEWTECH.

Example parameter:

An older-style license will either lack a SIGN or SIGN2 parameter entirely, or have one in the format of SIGN=XXXXXXXXXXXX.

When an updated license is needed

In order to run SIMetrix or SIMetrix/SIMPLIS v6.00 or higher, an updated license is required.

For users with Standalone or Portable licenses, it will be necessary to install an updated license for v6 only, any existing v5.X installations will continue to work with their existing installed licenses.

For users with LAN or WAN network licenses, the following will be necessary:

• Update any existing v5.6 client installations to SIMetrix/SIMPLIS v5.60h or later
• Update the SIMetrix/SIMPLIS License Manager to the latest supported version
• Install an updated license to be served by the SIMetrix/SIMPLIS License Manager
